2011 | Calligraphy Mural: 8’ x 26’ Ink on Mylar | The Miller Gallery, Pittsburgh PA
For this piece I created several different versions of the word "ithkr" ~ “remember” in the Arabic language. I explored different permutations of the word through traditional calligraphy and my own writing aesthetic. My use of language is abstracted through the arrangement & layering of letter forms. The result is primarily a visual meditation. The image asserts a sense of rumination, invocation & bridging that accompanies the act of remembrance regardless if one can read Arabic.
